"Jim's lessons are lots of fun. Before learning with Jim I could only play "Mary Had A Little Lamb". Now I can play "James Bond"! I look forward to the lessons with Jim. He is patient with me and he's a great guitar player."
Asher (Aged 11)
"I would highly recommend Jim to tutor the Guitar, I've been very pleased with how my Guitar playing has developed."
Shaun, Langford (Aged 36)
"Jim explains things easily and always brings new songs to our lesson for me to practice. He can teach a wide variety of styles of music. His lessons are always new and interesting."
Ruth, Henleaze (Aged 33)
"I'm jealous as Jim has toured Japan!
Amy (Aged 15)
"Jim is a good tutor. He brings songs that we have asked to play and he is very patient, letting us practice until we get it right."
Oscar (Aged 11)
"Jim is an excellent guitar tutor. He is timely, excellent value for money, very patient, has a thorough knowledge of differing music styles, listening to what the children say ( musical preferences).
Oscar & Amy's Parents, Stoke Gifford.
"Jim has been teaching me Guitar for the last year.
Sam, Shirehampton (Aged 60)
"I've liked the guitar lessons because you get to show off what you can do (when you've learnt it!). Also play the songs that you want, and make new melodies, as well as knowing what the parts on the guitar are called. Making songs up (it helps if you want to become a singer.) And it's fun!!!". Katey (Aged 9)
"Jim is very reliable - he always turns up promptly and is well-prepared with lots of handouts". Stan (Aged 10)

In each lesson we will cover songs that either myself or the pupil have chosen to learn, as well as covering the essentials like Chords, Scales, Rhythm playing, Lead playing and Theory. I can also, if they wish take pupils through from Grade 1 to Grade 8 on the Electric Guitar, with the Registry of Guitar Tutors and the London College of Music. Learning is a two way process and lessons can often go off on tangents depending on the pupils questions!
Lessons are usually 45 minutes long. ![]()
I've had the opportunities to work with many great musicians, who have been a great influence and inspiration. Some of my biggest achievements include, writing a piece of music for a Chinese orchestra on the guitar, which was performed at the Arnolfini in Bristol. With my band Monk & Canatella, I played at the Glastonbury festival, headlined Ashton Court Festival in Bristol, toured all over Europe and also represented Great Britain at the G8 summit in Japan. I've also recorded at some of the best recording studios in the country, including Rockfield Studios in Monmouthshire and Peter Gabriel's Real World. I've released about ten records including two albums and had my music appear on television advertisements and films worldwide. Playing the guitar takes patience and dedication, but the rewards are immense. It can open a whole new dimension of living. I wouldn't be without it.
